આપણો રાષ્ટ્રધ્વજ, અનેકવિધ વિચાર અને ડિઝાઇનમાંથી પસાર થઇને આજે જે આપણને દેખાય છે એ સ્વરુપે પહોંચ્યો છે. 1857થી 1947 સુધી કોઇને કોઇ સ્વરુપે આ વિચાર ઉપર કાર્ય થતું રહ્યું. બહાદુરશાહ ‘ઝફર’થી માડીને ભગિની નિવેદિતા, એની બેસન્ટ, બોઝ અને મિત્ર, માદામ કામા, વેંકય્યા પિંગળે, મહાત્મા ગાંધી, પટ્ટાભિ સીતારામૈયા અને ડો. હાર્ડીકર જેવા કેટકેટલાં લોકોએ એમાં પોતાનું યોગદાન આપ્યું છે. 15મી ઓગસ્ટ, 1947ના રોજ પહેલીવાર ફરકાવાયેલા આપણા રાષ્ટ્રધ્વજ ત્રિરંગાને પૂર્ણ આદર-સન્માન સાથે વંદન.
